Wow another great weekend at MidOhio! There was alot of competition in TTE - 5 cars on Saturday and 6 on Sunday, including a California driver that came to scout out the track before Nationals.
I spent most of Saturday trying to retune the car after changing the sway bars. Originally it was a little too "tail happy", but I still ran consistent 1:55's, good enough for 2nd place out of 5 cars. Photo credit: Patrick Strehl.
Lap times dropped dramatically on Sunday for everyone - MidOhio ground down some of the curbing located at midturn, which opened the track up and allowed us to carry much higher speeds. This is especially important for "momentum" cars like Miata's. Photo credit: Patrick Strehl.
On Sunday I lowered my personal best from 1:54 to 1:52.116, which was good enough for 3rd out of 6 cars. Also I was less than a tenth of a second off the pace of the 2nd place guy (1:52.037). Photo credit: Patrick Strehl.
Here I am showing the "pit in" signal (arm out the window) trying to get off the track before a Corvette runs me over. Overall - I'm happy with my times for the weekend, I have a couple more changes to make before Nationals in September, but I think I can compete and be in the middle of things. In addition to driving, we usually have a great time at the track hanging out as well. This time we rented cabins about 10 minutes away. Here is the party crew: Mark, Mark, Nancy, Paul, Mike, Renee and Lisa.
